Imodane, the Pyrohammer // Imodane, the Pyrohammer

Imodane, the Pyrohammer was released as part of the Wilds of Eldraine Art Series in 2023, a specialty line of cards featuring full-art illustrations without game text. These cards are distributed as promotional inserts in Magic: The Gathering collector boosters, designed specifically to showcase the high-fantasy aesthetic of the Eldraine setting. The card features the character Imodane, a champion of Embereth known for her mastery of flame-infused weaponry, reflecting the set's thematic blend of Grimm’s fairy tales and Arthurian legend.

The artwork for this piece was created by illustrator Zezhou Chen, who sought to capture the character's intense, kinetic energy through vibrant warm tones and sweeping motion lines. By stripping away the mechanics of the game, the design focuses entirely on the visual storytelling of the character's signature pyro-hammer. Upon release, the Art Series was well-received by collectors who value the opportunity to appreciate the game's expansive digital and traditional artwork in a cleaner, more immersive format.
