Where it came from
Imp's Mischief was originally released in the Planar Chaos set in 2007 as a rare black card capable of redirecting spells. It quickly became a niche staple in formats like Commander due to its unique ability to allow black decks to interact with the stack in a way typically reserved for blue cards. The card's identity is rooted in the chaotic, color-shifting philosophy of the Planar Chaos set, which explored alternate realities for the Magic: The Gathering multiverse.
This specific version was released as part of a Secret Lair drop, a premium series of limited-run cards known for their unconventional artistic direction. The design for this iteration features a stylized, dark aesthetic that emphasizes the whimsical yet disruptive nature of the imp, distancing the card from its traditional set art. It was received by the community as a highly desirable variant for collectors who favor thematic cohesion in their decks or seek unique visual interpretations of iconic functional cards.
