Where it came from
Incremental Growth was released in the Welcome Deck 2016, a specialized introductory product designed by Wizards of the Coast to teach new players the fundamentals of Magic: The Gathering. As part of a curated set, the card was intended to demonstrate the 'plus one plus one' counter mechanic prevalent in green-aligned strategies, offering a straightforward but impactful sorcery for beginners to experience scaling their creatures.
The card features artwork by Dan Scott, whose dynamic illustration style emphasizes the physical expansion and power surge described in the card's text. Within the context of the 2016 set, the design focused on clarity and accessibility, ensuring that the card's utility remained easy to understand for players navigating their first games, which helped the card become a recognized staple of the beginner-friendly era.
