Indentured Djinn

Indentured Djinn was released in 1999 as part of the Mercadian Masques set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. The set was inspired by the plane of Mercadia, a bustling, mercantile world defined by trade and political intrigue, which served as a tonal shift from the high-fantasy themes of previous expansions. Mechanically, the card reflects the set's focus on high-cost, high-risk permanents that often required ongoing investment or upkeep, placing it within the game's broader exploration of resource management.

The artwork was commissioned from Val Mayerik, an artist known for his prolific work in comics and illustrative fantasy.
