Index

Index was included in the Magic 2013 core set, released in July 2012 as the thirteenth base set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Originally designed as a common-rarity sorcery, the card functions as a utility piece allowing players to look at the top five cards of their library and rearrange them in any order. The card is a functional reprint of an effect that has appeared in various forms throughout the game's history, intended to provide blue-aligned players with deck manipulation and library filtering during the early stages of a game.

The artwork for this version was illustrated by Jason Felix, who utilized a clean, digital aesthetic to depict the scholarly act of organizing information. The design aims to visually represent the concept of 'indexing' within the game's fantasy setting, emphasizing the card's function as a tool for tactical foresight. Upon release, the card was received as a standard utility tool, valued primarily for its low mana cost and its ability to assist newer players in managing their card draws, though it saw limited competitive play compared to more powerful library manipulation spells.
