Indrik Stomphowler was originally released as part of the Guildpact set in 2006, representing the Selesnya Conclave’s focus on nature and large creatures. It was later reprinted with new artwork for the 2009 Duel Decks: Garruk vs. Liliana, a product designed to introduce players to the mechanics of planeswalkers while highlighting the core philosophical conflict between the green-aligned Garruk Wildspeaker and the black-aligned Liliana Vess. The card serves as a representative of green's mechanical identity, combining a substantial body with the ability to destroy artifacts or enchantments.

The artwork for this version was illustrated by Christopher Rush, one of the most iconic artists in the early history of Magic: The Gathering. Rush’s design for the Indrik emphasizes the beast's immense scale and its role as a force of natural destruction, rendered in a style that aligns with the aesthetic of early mid-2000s fantasy card art.
