Where it came from
Inniaz, the Gale Force was released in 2020 as part of the Jumpstart set for Magic: The Gathering. This set was designed to be an accessible, ready-to-play experience, featuring themed packs that could be shuffled together for immediate play. Inniaz represents the Flying-themed deck, embodying the mechanical focus on aerial creatures and spatial manipulation.
The card was illustrated by Johannes Voss, a long-time contributor to the game known for his expressive, atmospheric fantasy style. Voss crafted Inniaz to evoke the essence of a powerful Djinn commanding the skies, utilizing fluid lines and vibrant, ethereal lighting to suggest the chaotic movement of a gale force. It was received as a unique inclusion for Commander players looking to leverage its distinct ability to swap control of nonland permanents between players.
