Insatiable Harpy

Insatiable Harpy was released in 2013 as part of the Theros expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The set was heavily inspired by Greek mythology, focusing on the flavor of epic tales, gods, and monsters within the plane of Theros. This specific card was designed as a common-rarity creature to provide a recurring threat in Limited gameplay, utilizing the set's signature 'Bestow' mechanic, which allowed creature cards to be cast as enchantments to buff other units.

The card features illustration by Igor Kieryluk, who captured the harpy's predatory nature through a dynamic, mid-flight pose typical of his work on the project. The design process for Theros centered on top-down mythic archetypes, and the art direction sought to blend classic monstrous anatomy with the specific aesthetic cues of the Theros setting. Upon its release, it was regarded as a functional utility piece within the set's mechanical framework, valued by players for its consistency in draft environments.
