Where it came from
Inundate was released in 2008 as part of the Eventide set, the second expansion in the Shadowmoor block for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. The set was designed to explore the concept of hybrid mana and the aesthetic of a world caught in an eternal twilight, where color-shifted mechanics and dark, eerie imagery defined the gameplay experience.
The card features artwork by Christopher Moeller, who depicted the overwhelming, tidal force of water consuming the landscape. The design aimed to capture a powerful board-clearing effect, and it was received by players as a strategic tool for blue-aligned decks needing to reset the battlefield against non-blue threats, reflecting the game's focus on color-specific interaction during that era.
