Provenance

Where it came from

Invisibility was released as part of the Unlimited Edition set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game, which debuted in late 1993. This set served as the first mass-market print run following the initial limited Alpha and Beta releases, designed to meet overwhelming player demand for the burgeoning collectible card game. The card represents the core mechanics of the blue mana color identity, focusing on evasion and tactical advantage rather than raw power.

The card features artwork by Dameon Willich, who contributed numerous illustrations to the game's early sets. Willich utilized a distinct, moody aesthetic typical of the era's fantasy art, focusing on the visual representation of magical concealment. Upon its release, the card was received as a functional, if situational, tool for deck-builders, becoming a staple element of the early game's atmospheric lore and mechanical expansion.
