Provenance

Where it came from

The Isochron Scepter was originally introduced in the Mirrodin expansion in 2003, designed by Brian Tinsman as an artifact capable of imprinting low-cost instant spells to be cast repeatedly. It quickly became a staple in eternal formats for its ability to generate significant card advantage and board control, eventually earning it a place as a promotional card for the Friday Night Magic program in 2008.

This specific promotional version features updated, stylized artwork by Greg Staples, who replaced the original illustrator, Lars Grant-West. The Friday Night Magic series was created by Wizards of the Coast as a way to encourage local community play, and this particular printing is highly regarded by collectors for its distinct aesthetic and its enduring utility in competitive Magic: The Gathering decks.
