Where it came from
The Ivory Cup card, identified as number 252 in the International Collectors' Edition, emerged as part of the broader release of this specific trading card set designed to provide enthusiasts with high-quality representations of classic game components. Produced in the mid-1990s, the series was conceived to offer international markets access to iconic imagery that had become staples of the hobby, focusing on clarity of design and durability for serious collectors.
The aesthetic direction of the International Collectors' Edition leaned toward clean, professional layouts that emphasized the original illustrations of the game's various items. While the artwork for the Ivory Cup draws on traditional depictions of fantasy artifacts, the edition itself was received as a functional, commemorative bridge between early printings and the global expansion of the game, ultimately serving as a reliable reference point for those documenting the evolution of the set's visual language.
