Jace's Erasure

Jace's Erasure was released in the Magic 2012 core set in 2011, serving as a thematic expansion of the character Jace Beleren’s established role as a telepathic planeswalker who manipulates the minds of his opponents. Designed as a common enchantment, its mechanical focus on the 'mill' strategy—forcing players to discard cards from the top of their library—was intended to provide a foundational tool for blue-aligned control decks within the Limited format.

The artwork was commissioned from illustrator Jason Chan, who has contributed extensively to the Magic: The Gathering aesthetic. Chan’s interpretation of the card focuses on the visceral depiction of memory loss and mental unraveling, utilizing a cool blue palette to reflect Jace's psychic influence. Upon its release, the card was widely received by players as an efficient, low-cost utility piece that successfully reinforced the lore surrounding Jace's combat style.
