Jan Jansen, Chaos Crafter // Jan Jansen, Chaos Crafter

Jan Jansen, Chaos Crafter was released as part of the Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur's Gate Art Series in 2022. This set consists of specialized cards featuring the full-art illustrations found on the standard Commander cards, often intended for collectors to appreciate the artwork without the overlaid game text. The series highlights the transition of tabletop Dungeons & Dragons iconography into the Magic: The Gathering aesthetic, serving as a companion to the core set that brought the iconic city of Baldur's Gate to the card game.

The illustration for this card was created by artist Livia Prima, who has contributed extensively to the visual identity of modern Magic: The Gathering. Prima focused on capturing Jan Jansen’s chaotic, inventive nature, depicting him surrounded by his mechanical contraptions and gnomish gadgetry. Upon its release, the Art Series was well-received by fans of both the Dungeons & Dragons lore and Magic collectors for its clean, high-fidelity presentation of Prima's character design, which emphasizes the playful yet unpredictable spirit of the character.
