Where it came from
Jerren, Corrupted Bishop is part of the Art Series released alongside the Magic: The Gathering expansion 'Innistrad: Midnight Hunt' in 2021. These cards were distributed in Collector Boosters as a showcase for the set's conceptual illustrations. The piece highlights the dark, gothic aesthetic central to the Innistrad plane, focusing on the corruption of the Church of Avacyn as the world shifts toward an eternal night.
The illustration was crafted by artist Daarken, a long-time contributor to the Magic: The Gathering franchise. In designing this piece, the artist aimed to convey the physical and spiritual deterioration of a high-ranking cleric who has succumbed to the influence of darkness. It is presented on a clean, oversized card stock without game text, designed specifically for collectors to appreciate the intricate line work and moody color palette intended to evoke the horror-fantasy themes of the set.
