Where it came from
Jin-Gitaxias, as a character, first appeared in the Scars of Mirrodin block as a member of the Phyrexians, a race of biomechanical horrors obsessed with perfection through systematic assimilation. This specific card, released in 2023 as part of the March of the Machine set, depicts his transformation into a multi-faced deity during the planar invasion, representing the culmination of the Phyrexian plot to unite the multiverse under the influence of Elesh Norn.
The card features art by Daarken, a long-time contributor to the Magic: The Gathering franchise who often renders the more grotesque and alien aesthetics of the game. The design utilizes the double-faced card mechanic, allowing the creature to transform into a saga entitled The Great Synthesis, reflecting the lore-heavy transition of the character into a higher state of consciousness as he meticulously deconstructs the reality of his enemies.
