Where it came from
Joel, Resolute Survivor was released in 2024 as part of the Secret Lair x The Last of Us collection, a special-edition drop produced by Wizards of the Coast. This item was created to celebrate the aesthetic and narrative weight of Naughty Dog’s acclaimed video game series, integrating the character into the mechanical framework of Magic: The Gathering as a legendary creature card.
The card’s illustration was crafted to mirror the gritty, somber atmosphere of the game’s post-apocalyptic setting. By utilizing a distinct visual style that echoes the game’s promotional artwork, the design team aimed to bridge the gap between tactical card gameplay and interactive storytelling. The release was received by the player base as a deliberate move to appeal to both franchise fans and collectors interested in cross-media collaborations.
