Jungle Creeper was released in January 2018 as part of the Rivals of Ixalan expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The set focused on the plane of Ixalan, a world defined by Mesoamerican-inspired civilizations, deep jungles, and the hunt for the hidden city of Orazca. This card was designed as a common creature to serve as a reliable utility piece in the Limited format, providing players with a graveyard-recursion engine that allowed for sustained board presence during longer matches.

The card’s illustration was created by artist Igor Kieryluk, who utilized a lush, dark aesthetic to capture the dangerous, over-saturated environment of the Ixalan jungles.
