Jungle Shrine

Jungle Shrine was originally introduced to the Magic: The Gathering card game in the 2008 Shards of Alara expansion, designed to represent the Naya shard, a lush, primal plane centered on the colors red, green, and white. As a land card that enters the battlefield tapped and provides access to those three specific mana colors, it became a staple in multicolor deck archetypes that required efficient color fixing. The card was later featured in the Final Fantasy Commander product, which integrates iconic landscapes and settings from the long-running video game franchise into the mechanics of the tabletop game.

The artwork for this particular iteration was rendered by Eddie Mendoza, an artist known for his contributions to the Magic: The Gathering aesthetic. Mendoza’s design sought to evoke a sense of ancient, overgrown mystery, balancing the vibrant, natural life of the jungle with the structural remnants of a forgotten civilization. The piece was well-received by players for its atmospheric quality, which successfully translates the thematic tone of the Final Fantasy environments into the stylized, high-fantasy aesthetic expected of the Commander format.
