Where it came from
Kabira Evangel was released in 2009 as part of the Zendikar expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The set introduced an adventure-themed aesthetic centered on exploration, treasures, and the perilous, shifting landscapes of the plane of Zendikar. This card features the Ally creature type, a mechanic designed to encourage players to build synergies by playing multiple creatures that buff one another as they enter the battlefield.
The card was illustrated by artist Chris Rahn, who captured the stoic, spiritual essence of the Kor, a nomadic race native to Zendikar known for their mastery of rope and hook-based traversal. Rahn’s design emphasizes the character's role as a support unit, using soft light and flowing drapery to evoke the sacred duty of the Kor clerics within the floating ruins of their civilization.
