Kami of Twisted Reflection

Kami of Twisted Reflection was released in 2004 as part of the Champions of Kamigawa expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The set drew heavily from Japanese mythology and folklore, introducing the concept of the 'spirit world' through the Kami creatures. This specific card was designed to represent the ephemeral and mirror-like nature of the spirits inhabiting the Kamigawa plane, reflecting the set's broader mechanical focus on arcane spells and spirit-based interactions.

The card features the distinct visual style of artist Greg Staples, whose work often utilizes dramatic lighting and a painterly approach to enhance the ethereal nature of his subjects. His illustration for this piece aimed to capture the shifting, unstable appearance of a spirit manifestation. Upon its release, the card became a modest staple in limited play environments, noted for its ability to simulate the duplication of other spells or creatures, aligning with the fluid identity of the spirits central to the set's narrative.
