Provenance

Where it came from

Karakas first appeared in the Legends expansion in 1994, designed as a legendary land card that functioned as a tactical counter to other legendary creatures. It was conceived during a period when Wizards of the Coast was still refining the rules for unique, powerful cards, and its ability to return high-value legends to their owner's hand made it a staple in competitive play for decades.

This specific printing originates from the 2023 Tales of Middle-earth Commander set, which integrated the lore of J.R.R. Tolkien’s legendarium into the Magic: The Gathering ecosystem. The card features updated artwork commissioned for this release, intended to evoke the architectural aesthetic of Gondor's capital, and was designed to maintain the card's original utility while providing players with a thematic aesthetic for their Middle-earth themed decks.
