Kazuul's Toll Collector

Kazuul's Toll Collector was originally introduced as a common creature in the Magic: The Gathering set Worldwake, released in early 2010. The card depicts an ogre from the Zendikar plane, a setting defined by its dangerous, shifting landscape and the presence of ancient, slumbering eldritch entities known as the Eldrazi. The creature represents the aggressive, opportunistic nature of the ogre tribes inhabiting the mountainous regions of the plane, who are often depicted as demanding payment or tribute from those traversing their territory.

This specific iteration comes from the 2020 set Double Masters, which was designed as a premium reprint product focused on high-power cards and fan-favorite mechanics from throughout the game's history. The illustration for the original card was completed by artist Matt Cavotta, whose work on the Zendikar block helped establish the rugged and adventurous visual language of the setting. By the time of the Double Masters reprint, the card remained a functional piece of Limited play design, valued for its ability to equip artifacts at a reduced cost, a mechanic that leans into the equipment-heavy themes often present in its respective sets.
