Where it came from
Keening Banshee was released in 2005 as part of the Ravnica: City of Guilds set, the first installment in the block that introduced the plane of Ravnica. Designed by Wizards of the Coast, the card reflects the gothic, urban-horror aesthetic of the Orzhov Syndicate, one of the ten guilds featured in the set. Mechanically, it was designed as a common-rarity creature intended for Limited play, providing black mana decks with a way to remove smaller utility creatures upon entering the battlefield.
