Where it came from
Kirol, History Buff // Pack a Punch is a double-faced card featured in the Secrets of Strixhaven subset of the Magic: The Gathering card game. This set was designed as part of the Strixhaven: School of Mages expansion, which centers on a magical university setting. The card reflects the set's academic theme, specifically focusing on the lore-heavy and archival aspects of the institution through its dual-faced mechanic.
The card was illustrated to capture the aesthetic of the Lorehold College, known for its focus on history and archaeology. The design utilizes the modal double-faced card technology introduced in the Zendikar Rising expansion to allow a single card to represent both the scholarly pursuit of history and the resulting discovery or impact. It is a niche mechanical piece intended for gameplay formats that utilize the Strixhaven Mystical Archive or special bonus sheets.
