Where it came from
Forum Necroscribe was released as part of the Strixhaven: School of Mages expansion for Magic: The Gathering in 2021. The card originates from the Prismari Performance Commander deck, reflecting the set's academic theme centered around five distinct colleges of magic. Mechanically, it plays into the set’s focus on spells and graveyard synergy, representing the scholarly pursuit of forbidden knowledge within the halls of the Strixhaven campus.
The card’s illustration was crafted by artist Bastien L. Deharme, who utilized a gothic and atmospheric aesthetic to capture the essence of a scholarly specter. The visual design emphasizes the union of academic rigor and dark necromancy, aligning with the dark academia motif that defined the visual identity of the Strixhaven release. Upon its debut, the card was received as a niche utility piece for tribal or graveyard-themed decks, appreciated for its thematic depth and distinct artistic contribution to the set’s lore.
