Provenance

Where it came from

Kirtar's Wrath was originally released in the 2001 Odyssey expansion, serving as a tactical board wipe for white decks. Its design, illustrated by Pete Venters, depicts the legendary avian Kirtar unleashing a catastrophic spell to cleanse the battlefield of creatures. Within the lore of the set, the card reflects the desperate measures taken during the Mirari's influence on the world of Otaria.

The version included in the 2017 Commander Anthology was selected to bolster the preconstructed deck 'Evasive Maneuvers'. While the card remains a staple for casual Commander players due to its versatile combination of creature destruction and spirit token generation, it represents a classic design philosophy from the early 2000s that favored high-mana, high-impact spells.
