Knighthood

Knighthood was originally introduced in the Alpha set of Magic: The Gathering in 1993, designed by Richard Garfield as part of the game’s inaugural white color identity. The card was created to provide a static buff to Knight creatures, reflecting the thematic focus on order and military structure inherent to the color white. The artwork for the Seventh Edition printing was rendered by artist Donato Giancola, who transitioned the card away from its original aesthetic toward a more painterly, classical fantasy style that defined the visual identity of the game during the early 2000s.

The Seventh Edition version, marked with the collector number 25, appeared in 2001 as part of the core set transition that modernized card frames and tightened consistency across the game's expansive library. Within the context of the Seventh Edition, this card served as a foundational enchantment that reinforced tribal synergies, though its mechanical utility was gradually eclipsed by more specialized power creep in later expansions.
