Where it came from
The Kor Ally token was released as part of the Zendikar Rising Commander set in 2020. It was designed to support gameplay mechanics introduced in the Zendikar block, specifically the 'Ally' creature type, which focuses on synergistic abilities that trigger when multiple allies enter the battlefield. This token serves as a physical representation of the creature created by various spells and abilities found within the set.
The visual design of the Kor Ally aligns with the aesthetic of the Zendikar plane, emphasizing the resilient, nomadic nature of the Kor people. Illustrated to capture their signature gear and grav-magic influences, the art aims to provide a clear, thematic marker for players during tabletop games. It was received as a functional necessity for Commander players, reflecting the game's shift toward providing dedicated tokens for secondary-market expansion sets.
