Kor Cartographer

Kor Cartographer was originally introduced in the Worldwake expansion of Magic: The Gathering, designed as a utility creature for the white color identity to provide ramp capabilities through land search. As a creature belonging to the Kor race—a nomadic people central to the lore of the Zendikar plane—the card reflects the theme of exploration and survival in a world defined by its volatile, shifting geography.

The version from Commander Legends, illustrated by artist Igor Kieryluk, was released in 2020 as part of a set specifically engineered for the multiplayer Commander format. Kieryluk’s design leans into the thematic aesthetic of the Kor, emphasizing their lithe, athletic physiology and the rugged gear required for surveying the perilous Zendikar landscape. The card was well-received by the player base for its functional reprint status and its ability to fit seamlessly into decks requiring efficient mana acceleration within white.

The artwork maintains a consistent visual language with the card's original depiction, capturing the Kor in a moment of stoic discovery. By situating the character against the backdrop of floating stone hedron fragments, the design reinforces the card's mechanical utility while grounding it in the expansive, high-fantasy narrative of the Zendikar setting.
