Lambholt Raconteur // Lambholt Ravager

Lambholt Raconteur, paired with its flip-side Lambholt Ravager, was released in the 2021 Magic: The Gathering expansion, Innistrad: Crimson Vow. The card was designed as part of a cycle of double-faced cards that emphasize the gothic horror theme of the set, specifically focusing on the werewolf transformation mechanic known as nightbound. By tracking the number of spells cast during a turn, the card forces a dynamic shift in gameplay that reflects the unstable, dual nature of the creatures inhabiting the fictional plane of Innistrad.

The artwork was illustrated by Wisnu Tan, who aimed to capture the visceral transition between the human storyteller and the predatory werewolf. The design process for these cards is rooted in top-down atmospheric storytelling, where the mechanical transformation is intended to mirror the narrative threat posed by the werewolf in human society. Upon release, the card was received as a functional role-player within the set's Limited environment, valued primarily for its ability to pressure opponents by punishing those who hesitate to cast spells.
