Provenance

Where it came from

Leaf Arrow was released in 2010 as part of the Rise of the Eldrazi expansion for Magic: The Gathering. As the third and final set in the Zendikar block, it shifted the game's focus toward the arrival of the Eldrazi, colossal extra-dimensional entities that threatened the survival of the plane. The card was designed as a common-rarity artifact equipment, intended to provide creature support within the Limited draft environment by granting reach, allowing non-flying creatures to block those with flying.

The card’s illustration was created by artist Christopher Moeller, who provided a functional, stark aesthetic typical of Zendikar's equipment cards. The design focuses on the practical utility of the item as a tool for archers, aligning with the set's emphasis on adventurous survival themes. While it did not gain significant traction in competitive constructed formats, it remains a recognized example of the utility equipment found in the mid-era of Magic design.
