Where it came from
Leyline of Mutation was released as part of the Duskmourn: House of Horror set in 2024. As a card within the Leyline cycle, it reflects the set’s thematic focus on classic 1980s horror tropes and supernatural threats. The card was designed to function within the high-variance, enchantment-heavy environment of the set, offering players a way to modify their spells before the game officially begins.
The promotional version, designated 188s, features unique artistic treatments consistent with the 'House of Horror' aesthetic, which draws heavily from cabin-in-the-woods and slasher genre imagery. The illustration, executed by artists commissioned to evoke visceral, unsettling atmosphere, aims to capture the chaotic nature of the mutation mechanic. Upon its release, the card received attention from players interested in its niche utility for deck building, though it is viewed primarily as a functional piece within the broader, stylistically cohesive collection of the Duskmourn expansion.
