Provenance

Where it came from

Lightform originally debuted as an uncommon card in the Magic: The Gathering set Urza's Destiny, released in 1999. It represents the Enchantment—Aura card type, which at the time was part of a cycle of cards designed to turn enchantments into creatures. This design choice leaned into the set's broader themes of artifact and enchantment manipulation, reflecting the complex, combo-heavy mechanics that defined the Urza block era.

The card was later included in 'The List,' a curated collection of reprints that appear in Set Boosters to introduce players to cards from Magic's long history. The illustration, originally by artist Greg Hildebrandt, is characteristic of the late nineties aesthetic, featuring soft, ethereal lighting that aligns with the card's function of granting life-link and evasion abilities to a permanent.
