Where it came from
Lim-Dûl's Vault was released in 1996 as part of the Alliances expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The card represents the nefarious necromancer Lim-Dûl, a central antagonist from the Ice Age block's storyline, who commanded armies of the undead against the frozen continent of Terisiare. It was designed to reflect the character's thematic focus on dark manipulation and the exchange of life for forbidden knowledge.
The artwork was created by illustrator Pete Venters, who played a significant role in defining the visual language of the game throughout the mid-1990s.
