Provenance

Where it came from

The Loan Shark card from the Outlaws of Thunder Junction Art Series was released in 2024 as part of a specialized subset of the Magic: The Gathering card game. This series focuses on showcasing the vivid, high-fantasy western aesthetic of the set, offering players and collectors larger, borderless versions of the card art without the standard game mechanics overlay.

The illustration was created to embody the thematic focus of the set, which reimagines the classic fantasy tropes of Magic: The Gathering through the lens of a rugged, frontier-themed plane. The design team aimed to capture a sense of menace and predatory wealth consistent with the card's role in the game, utilizing sharp lines and a color palette reflective of the dusty, high-noon atmosphere central to the Outlaws of Thunder Junction narrative.
