Where it came from
Locke Cole, the charismatic treasure hunter from Final Fantasy VI, was reimagined for this art series to highlight his dual identity as both a roguish adventurer and a deeply haunted romantic. The design intentionally strips away the complex, pixelated constraints of his 1994 SNES appearance, opting for a clean, illustrative style that emphasizes his signature bandana, leather armor, and the melancholy gaze he wears when remembering his past.
This card was released as part of a premium tribute collection intended to canonize the iconic character portraits of the franchise. By focusing on individual character studies rather than action sequences, the illustrators aimed to capture the internal emotional arc of the heroes. The set received praise from the community for its minimalist aesthetic and its ability to treat digital-era protagonists with the reverence typically reserved for traditional fine art portraiture.
