Logic Knot was originally printed in the Future Sight expansion in 2007, serving as a clever mechanical callback to the delve keyword from the Scourge set. It was designed to provide blue decks with an efficient, graveyard-reliant counterspell, reflecting the set’s experimental philosophy of exploring unconventional mechanics from across the game's history. Its inclusion in the 2015 Modern Masters set marked a significant moment for the card, as it allowed players to utilize the effect in the Modern format, where it became a staple tool for control archetypes that could leverage discarded cards to pay for the spell's prohibitive cost.

The card’s visual identity was established by artist Glen Angus, whose work frequently leaned into high-fantasy and surrealist themes. For Logic Knot, Angus crafted an intricate, swirling visual representation of a magical snare, using his signature style of layered, glowing linework to signify the complex nature of counter-magic. The illustration was well-received by players for its ability to convey the feeling of a 'knot' of spells being held in stasis, becoming one of the most recognizable pieces of art associated with the delve mechanic.
