Where it came from
Malignus was originally released in the 2012 Magic: The Gathering expansion Avacyn Restored, a set themed around the gothic horror plane of Innistrad and the release of the archangel Avacyn from the Helvault. Designed as a rare red creature, the card centers on the mechanics of life totals, punishing opponents for their resilience by scaling its power and toughness to their highest life total among all players.
