Provenance

Where it came from

The Map token, indexed as collector number 17 within The Lost Caverns of Ixalan release, was introduced in late 2023 as part of a set focused on subterranean exploration and Mesoamerican-inspired fantasy. These artifact tokens are generated by specific cards within the expansion, serving as a tactical resource that players can sacrifice to manipulate the top of their deck, representing the thematic discovery of ancient secrets buried within the caverns.

The artwork for this token adheres to the vibrant, high-adventure aesthetic established by the Ixalan plane, emphasizing cartographic motifs and lost-civilization iconography. Designed by the internal Wizards of the Coast art direction team, the token was crafted to provide visual clarity during gameplay while reinforcing the narrative arc of explorers venturing into the depths of a hidden, sunless world.
