Provenance

Where it came from

Released in April 1999, the Sixth Edition was the first 'Classic' core set for Magic: The Gathering, designed to consolidate and update the game's rules and card pool. The set served as a transitional baseline for players, featuring a blend of reprints from earlier expansions. Marble Diamond was originally introduced in the Mirage expansion and was brought into the Sixth Edition as part of a cycle of mana-producing artifacts, each corresponding to a specific color of mana.

The art for the Marble Diamond was created by artist Ed Beard Jr., who contributed extensively to Magic: The Gathering during the late 1990s. The illustration depicts a stylized, glowing gemstone embedded within a stone frame, intended to evoke the theme of ancient, mystical artifacts that provide magical energy. Within the game's context, the card acts as an early-game utility piece, allowing players to accelerate their mana production in White-aligned decks.
