Where it came from
March of the Multitudes was originally printed in the Guilds of Ravnica expansion in 2018 before being included in the 2022 Starter Commander Decks collection. The card was designed to represent the Selesnya Conclave’s signature ability to populate the battlefield with tokens, fitting into the faction's themes of unity and collective growth. Its mechanics allow players to utilize convoke, an ability that enables creatures to help pay for the spell, reflecting the lore-based concept of the guild members working in tandem.
The artwork for this specific printing features the iconic visual style associated with the Selesnya guild, emphasizing an overwhelming surge of communal force. While the card is a functional reprint of the original design, its inclusion in the Starter Commander Decks was intended to provide accessible, synergistic tools for players entering the Commander format. It remains a staple for token-focused strategies due to its scalability and the efficiency provided by its convoke mechanic.
