Mask of Memory

Mask of Memory was originally released in the Mirrodin set in 2003, designed to fit the block's heavy focus on artifacts and equipment. As an equipment card that grants card advantage upon dealing combat damage, it emerged from an era where R&D was experimenting with the power level of colorless utility items. Its inclusion in the 2014 Commander preconstructed deck allowed it to reach a wider audience of players who favored the popular multiplayer format, keeping the card relevant years after its debut.

The card features artwork by Christopher Moeller, who captured the artifact's eerie, relic-like aesthetic. The design goal was to visually represent the concept of 'memory' through a haunting, mask-like structure, aligning with the scavenging flavor of the Mirrodin plane. It has since been received by the Magic: The Gathering community as a reliable, staple utility piece for aggressive strategies looking to maintain hand size throughout the mid-to-late game.
