Master's Call

Master's Call was released in 2011 as part of the DCI Promos program, a series of cards distributed primarily to participants and winners of sanctioned Magic: The Gathering tournaments. It serves as an alternate-art version of the card originally featured in the Mirrodin Besieged expansion, which depicted the conflict between the Mirran resistance and the Phyrexians. This promotional version highlights the card's theme of recruitment and preparation for battle, providing a visually distinct incentive for competitive players to engage with organized play.

The artwork for this promotional release was created by Igor Kieryluk, an artist noted for his contributions to the darker, more visceral aesthetics of the game. Kieryluk’s design focuses on the somber intensity of the moment, utilizing heavy shading and sharp contrasts to convey the gravity of the call to arms. The card was well-received by the player base, particularly among those who valued the thematic integration of the art with the strategic function of the card, and it remains a sought-after piece for collectors of promotional tournament materials.
