Where it came from
Maximus, Knight Apparent was released in 2024 as part of the Secret Lair x Fallout collection, a collaboration between Wizards of the Coast and Bethesda Softworks. This card depicts the character Maximus from the Fallout television series, serving as a direct tie-in to the show's integration into the Magic: The Gathering universe. The set was designed to capture the aesthetic and narrative tone of the post-apocalyptic wasteland, bridging the gap between tabletop strategy and high-budget science fiction television.
The card features artwork by artist Dominik Mayer, who utilized a distinct, angular style to emphasize the imposing silhouette of the Brotherhood of Steel power armor. By focusing on the interplay of light and shadow, the design aims to evoke the gritty, militaristic atmosphere of the Fallout franchise. Upon release, the card was well-received by players for its thematic accuracy and for offering a recognizable face for the popular Commander format, solidifying its place as a standout piece within the limited-run Secret Lair series.
