Mesa Falcon

Mesa Falcon was released in October 1995 as part of the Homelands expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Developed by Wizards of the Coast, this set was designed to flesh out the lore of the world of Ulgrotha, a plane defined by its isolation and struggle against dark forces. The card represents the avian fauna of the mesa regions within this gothic-fantasy setting, serving as a mechanical staple for white-aligned decks of the era.

The artwork for the card was created by artist Anson Maddocks, who was a foundational contributor to the game's early visual identity. Maddocks utilized his signature style to depict the falcon in a manner consistent with the gritty, illustrative aesthetic characteristic of mid-nineties Magic sets. While Homelands was initially met with mixed critical reception due to its perceived lower power level compared to preceding expansions, the set has since gained a cult following among collectors who appreciate its unique narrative focus and distinct artistic direction.
