Where it came from
Might of the Ancestors was released in November 2023 as part of The Lost Caverns of Ixalan, a set designed to revisit the Mesoamerican-inspired plane of Ixalan. The card serves as a thematic exploration of the set's focus on ancestral connection and the subterranean history of the world, mechanics that emphasize the influence of past spirits on current combatants.
The artwork was created by illustrator Caio Monteiro, who sought to capture the ethereal, monumental nature of the plane's ancient guardians. His design focuses on the visual representation of heritage and spectral strength, integrating the vibrant, jungle-adjacent aesthetic typical of the Ixalan visual identity. Upon release, the card was received as a functional tool for decks centered on creature-based synergy and temporary power boosts.
