What it does
Players can't search libraries.
Rogue mechanists once rummaged through the wastes of the Tidehollow, constructing unauthorized golems to threaten the hegemony of the sphinxes. The orbs put a stop to that.

Where it came from
Mindlock Orb was released in 2008 as part of the Shards of Alara expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The card was designed to reflect the set's central theme of fractured realities and the distinct elemental planes that converged during the storyline. It functions as a disruptive tool in gameplay, specifically targeting the popular strategy of searching one's library, which was a dominant mechanic in the competitive landscape of that era.
The card features artwork by Christopher Moeller, who captured the artifact's eerie, containment-focused aesthetic. The design emphasizes the concept of magical restriction, utilizing a cold, celestial visual language to complement the rules text. Upon its release, it was noted by players as a niche but effective sideboard option in various constructed formats, serving as a classic example of hate-card design that punishes players for interacting too deeply with their own decks.
