Its inclusion in Ninth Edition, a core set released in 2005, served to keep this disruptive creature available in the standard tournament pool, marking a transition period where core sets began to feature more strategically complex rare cards to entice established players.

The artwork for this version was provided by Kev Walker, a prolific illustrator known for his gritty, high-contrast style that became synonymous with the aesthetic of Magic: The Gathering throughout the 2000s.
