Where it came from
Minnea, Planar Tourist, designated as MG01, originates from the Magic: The Gathering Unknown Event set, a promotional release distributed during the 2019 MagicCon event in Las Vegas. The card was designed as a unique, novelty piece for the Playtest cards series, intended to explore unconventional mechanical design space that deviates from the traditional ruleset of the game. It serves as a curiosity for collectors interested in the experimental design phase of Magic cards.
The character design reflects the whimsical tone characteristic of the mystery playtest series, focusing on a meta-narrative concept that plays with the idea of a tourist navigating the multiverse. As a playtest card, it lacks the standard aesthetic polish of official retail expansions, instead utilizing a simplified, prototype-style visual layout. It was received by the community as a rare memento of a specific convention experience rather than a viable piece for competitive play.
